Cabbage and Noodles

February 25, 2015

Cabbage and Noodles from https://test.pleasepassthepeas.com

Yesterday we woke up to snow.

E. had never seen it before and we spent several minutes first thing looking out his bedroom window while simultaneously flipping through “The Snowy Day,” pointing from book to window, making the connection.

After breakfast, we bundled up and trundled outside to hurl tiny snowballs and shake the snowy bushes in our front yard. In the afternoon, we sat in front of the fire and read picture books. And for dinner we ate hearty bowls full of cabbage and noodles, the perfect meal for a snow day….

Baby, It’s Cold Inside

Indoor temperature after power outage at https://test.pleasepassthepeas.com

This morning — the coldest morning of the year and maybe of my life — I dropped E off at daycare and came home to a power outage.

No heat, no internet, no cooking apparatus. Even our water comes from a well with an electric pump.

Ready for the oven (or freezer) from https://test.pleasepassthepeas.com

I posted earlier this week about my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, but I realized later that I forgot to tell you one of the best things about it.

Worth the Wait Chocolate Chip Cookies

February 8, 2015

Worth the Wait Chocolate Chip Cookies from https://test.pleasepassthepeas.com

Sometimes life calls for cookies.

And when that happens, this is the first recipe I turn to.

These cookies are, hands down, the best cookies I have ever made and probably among the best I have ever eaten.

Soft in the center, crisp around the edges, studded with molten bittersweet chocolate bits and finished with a sprinkle of flaky salt — these are everything a chocolate chip cookie should be. …
